Individual/play therapy with children often deals with helping them adapt within the family and in the outside world (school, friends, and activities). Some children have fears which must be resolved (fear of the dark, fear of being alone, etc). Some children are too introverted – they have trouble making friends, asserting themselves appropriately or expressing their feelings, needs and wishes. Other children have not yet been able to master powerful emotions that cause temper tantrums, angry outbursts and non-compliance. Finally some children struggle with ADHD, learning problems, and school related issues.
In each of these cases, the goal of therapy is to develop skills and techniques that improve adaptation to their home, school and/or social environment.
